About our Perthshire Artist Opportunity
We have an opportunity for 2 creatives: 1 Visual Artist in Residence and 1 Writer in Residence.
Mid January – Mid April 2020 (Pick your days/dates)
The key theme of this opportunity is exchange. It’s for creatives wishing a stimulus to research making work in a different way.
About us
We are a new English Language School based in Crieff, Perthshire.
We would like to offer our premises and support for a collaboration between a writer (poet, storyteller, journalist, blogger, novelist) and a visual artist (or collective?).
We won’t have language learners between January and March – so we have beautiful, comfy premises which can be used for an alternative purposes, (including workshops, meetings, installations, residencies, dance, pop up theatre, thesis research…).
Our space will be your space for up to 3 months

Further Information
Once selected, you can pick your times/days of working.
A certain degree of physical sharing of the space is expected for the collaboration, but you can certainly choose to collaborate via distance too.
Further artist opportunities in Perthshire
If you wish, there are opportunities to exhibit the resulting works within our space and we’ll certainly promote you on our Social Media and website too. (There are other exhibition options in the area – depending on the results and your practice).
We can support you by connecting you to places, people and events in the local area – even taking you places if needed.
We also have access locally to a Digital Media Lab which includes a 3D printer and film/sound editing bay.
At some point, we would very much like to work with Quatro Press (a private, letterpress workshop) on a publication/poster/documentation.
This could be the opportunity, but there is no obligation.
We’ll mentor the project in a friendly way. Ruth has curated exhibitions internationally – and for The Changing Room, Stirling and Art Gene, Barrow-in-Furness in the UK.
She’s also taken a few artist residencies herself and taught art at MFA level.
About Our Budget
This is not a well-funded opportunity. We are a start-up business with big ideas – a beautiful space and a paltry budget.
We can offer only £200 per creative towards travel (or materials). However, we can offer our space, time, mentoring (if wished) and support as the project develops.
This opportunity would suit an international academic looking for professional development (with university funding ).
For UK artists and writers, there’s the possibility of sourcing your own project funding as a grant. We’ll help with that application!
(NB: One example could be Open Project Funding through Creative Scotland (apply a minimum of 8 weeks before the project begins).
