Scotch Broth
Moments that share being in Perthshire
Get tiny postcard moments from Scotland
I’m taking inspiration from the traditional Scottish meal, Scotch Broth, to send you bite-sized tasters of Scotland.
It’s not me telling you long stories about everything that’s happening, or why we do what we do.
Inboxes are busy places!
Expect bites and flavours, inspirational moments that enchanted me – and that I hope will not only enchant you too, but give you a taste of being here with me, sharing the wonder of Scotland.
My messages are travel sketches from me, to you.
They:
-
Leave space
-
Ask nothing of you
-
Offer a sense of being here — in the town, the landscape, the season
-
Arrive without instruction or expectation
They’re just small moments from Scotland, I think you might enjoy.
About the Soup
Scotch broth is a traditional soup. It’s hearty, healthy, warm, comforting and nutritious.
You could follow a recipe, but most people don’t.
The Scottish way is to mix in what’s in the fridge — half a cabbage, whatever you have.
Traditionally, it’s food for feeding many people cheaply, with lovely big chunks so that every spoonful is different from the next. We’ve kept that spirit in accessibility.
Every broth is different from the next.
Each is about what’s growing in the fields, what’s happening at home. The power of the broth is to bring people together, to share.
Imagine being outdoors, exercising or working the fields, looking after sheep. That is the history of this soup. There’s nothing better, warmer, or tastier than coming inside for this comfort.
