Perthshire for Visitors

What's So Great about Perthshire?

This blog compares the top reasons visitors choose Scotland as a destination (landscapes, history, wildlife etc) with the attractions and natural assets of the region.

Begin here for an overview of Perthshire.

Choosing the Right Language Holiday Location

When planning a language holiday in Scotland, you may picture cities like Edinburgh or Glasgow.

While they are great for visiting, a smaller town offers not just better conversation practice, but the chance to get to know the community.

Even within a week in Crieff, there’s a good chance you’ll have familiar people in the street and re-meet people at events: brilliant for language practice, and more importantly, great for building an authentic connection with your second language: even lasting friendships!

Get the Best of Both Worlds

Plus: you can still fit the cities into your educational holiday; some people extend their break to visit them before or after their immersion course with us (ask us about homestay accommodation for this). We visit different attractions in Dundee and Edinburgh as part of our language excursions, including the V&A Dundee and the Edinburgh Festival.

How to Find the Right Destination – for You!

If you are still choosing your language holiday destination, these blogs will help:

Exploring Art & Culture

There’s so much great art & culture to share!

Do you know that Perth and Perthshire have UNESCO City of Craft status? (learn why)

In our region, you can discover contemporary artists, traditional crafts, local markets and international audiences.

The biggest festival is Perthshire Open Studios which we visit during Art Month every September.

We visit artist studios around Perthshire (and beyond).

Plus, we invite local artists to host workshops.

Exploring Landscape & Nature

Being immersed in nature offers a calming environment that can significantly reduce the anxiety many second language speakers feel about their English.

Escape the classroom! (Doesn’t the word ‘escape’ sound so liberating!)

Feel free, be free, move freely.

Discover ‘Perthshire Time’ as stress melts away.

As language experts, not outdoor experts, we partner with local businesses that specialise in sharing Scotland’s outdoors in safe, exciting, and environmentally responsible ways.

Here are just 3 examples of wildlife experiences we share as language immersion activities.

Music

We share a lot of music on our language holidays, partly because Kenny and I are such big fans of contemporary Scottish music, and mostly because music immerses you in our culture, offering a rich way to connect with the language beyond words.

It trains your ear to pick up rhythms, tones, and natural speech patterns while helping you relax, being part of the feel-good memories you bring home with you, and associate with your English for a long time to come.

We tend not to blog about individual concerts (we go to a lot!), but here are a couple of blogs showing the kinds of things we like to share with our guests.

Friendliness

When choosing your language holiday in Scotland, ask yourself what will get you speaking with the community.

In our opinion, Perthshire’s number one asset for language learners is its friendliness.

And that’s not just us being biased. in 2024, Perthshire was voted the friendliest place on Earth by Booking.com.

Friendliness is important for getting you talking! But it’s also important to help you feel at home and relaxed here.

Our homestay hosts are selected because they have gorgeous homes AND would love to make you feel welcome.

Food & Drink

Another passion of ours!

Sharing food and eating together is great for language learning.

Mealtime conversations are relaxed, natural and spontaneous,

The act of sharing food fosters heartfelt connections.

Discussing dishes, ingredients, and cultural traditions adds layers of context to the language, making the learning experience richer and more memorable and deepening both self-expression and cultural understanding.

For proof of concept, try these blogs:

Excursion to the Glenturret Distillery

Discover why we feature this distillery on our language holidays (clue, it’s not just the whisky!)

Let’s Talk!

Book a video chat to meet the teaching team and ask any questions you have about our holidays.

Our language holidays in Scotland offer a the opportunity to combine language learning and practice with immersive experiences in nature, culture, and community.

Perthshire, with its stunning landscapes, great food, friendliness and culture, provides the a great backdrop to practice English in real-life settings, while benefiting from the well-being of time spent outdoors.

Don’t choose a classroom, choose 1000 micro-moments of you being you, in English.
