Let Your Inner Creative Out to Play!

So many of us have a creative talent or inclination on the back burner; we don’t make time for it.

But being creative is one of the healthiest things you can do. It’s up there with good nutrition and exercise as necessary for long-term wellbeing.

Creativity is not an indulgence—it’s a right.

I know how hard it is to carve out the time, so this September, I’ve time-blocked it just for you.

Whether you join me in Scotland for an Art and English Retreat, or stay in your own studio, I hope you’ll take this chance to reconnect with what inspires you—and let English be part of that journey.

Sketch Scotland

An Art and English Retreat in Scotland

Arrivals every Friday or Saturday in September — choose your preferred weekend to join.
Location: Perthshire, Scotland

£1,600 per week

£1600 per week + £25/night homestay (or note that two‑week bundles are available).

Sketch Scotland is a relaxing, art-inspired language immersion holiday designed for anyone who wants to explore English through the joy of sketching, painting, and being inspired by beautiful places.

Imagine not just visiting a historic garden or castle, but taking time to find the way you want to capture it. Each day includes mini creative challenges to help you see more deeply and gently push you out of old habits into greater creative fluency.

You’ll also have the chance to try new techniques at our hub (like monoprint and collage) and take a weekend oils workshop with a local landscape artist.

Throughout the retreat, we’ll visit working artists and craftspeople in their studios, so you can see creative processes up close and connect your own practice to theirs—all while practising English in meaningful conversations.

Who It’s For:

  • Amateur artists and hobby creatives

  • Anyone craving time and space to reconnect with their creativity

  • Learners who want a real-world English experience in a relaxed setting

  • Scottish art and culture lovers
  • English users with a level intermediate and above.

Why Are We Calling This Holiday a Retreat?

A retreat is more than a holiday—it’s an intentional pause.

It’s a chance to step away from everyday distractions and invest in a way of being that feels fully present, focused, and alive. When you give yourself uninterrupted time to create, reflect, and connect, you build habits and insights that stay with you long after you return home.

The creative person living inside you will finally become a living, breathing part of your everyday life, transforming your energy and the confidence you show up with in English.

A Reminder Why Making Art Matters

In her recent TEDx talk, writer and creative coach Amie McNee challenges the idea that art is frivolous or indulgent in difficult times. She argues that creativity is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.

Art calms us, connects us, and gives us purpose.

It heals our bodies, minds, and communities.

Don’t wait until you have time, make time!

Experience Design Holidays

Throughout the year, I design English learning experiences that help people from all backgrounds build confidence and connection, and a healthy relationship with their English.

This September, we’re devoting a whole month to celebrating creativity and inviting you to join me, wherever you are in your art journey.

Whether you’re an art lover dreaming of time to sketch or a professional creative ready to develop your English for your career, we have a place for you.

How Does Language Coaching Help Your English?

Real progress comes from something schools never taught us:

Collocations  (how words fit together.
Pronunciation correction in real time.
→  Immediate feedback, from someone trained to hear what you can’t.
→  Experience receiving and producing language in real time.
→  And above all: confidence and mindset.

Language coaching means immediate feedback, from someone trained to hear what you can’t, who knows how to deliver it constructively and can triage errors so the most important get fixed first.

Even though receiving language coaching feels less ‘work’ than a language class, it’s a lot more effective.
