Adult Language Learning

This page shares the Blue Noun Pedagogy: in other words, detailing how our adult language holiday courses enhance your English proficiency

But first, let’s start with WHY we teach differently.

An Alternative Language School

Most people have spent years in classrooms learning English, yet never fully experience the freedom a second language offers.

Worse still, many need to use English professionally, with work-related stress compounding feelings of classroom alienation

At Blue Noun, we empower you to speak English confidently.

We transform the English loosely stored in your mind into a language you feel comfortable with, through positive and memorable experiences

When we help you grow your English, it begins to feel natural and enjoyable.

Can you imagine wanting to discover more and more English?

Where will it take you?

English Learning – Differently!

Our language holiday courses for adults combine the best elements from all kinds of language education, to create a unique, memorable learning experience.

The Traditional Language Class

Pros:

  • Designed to accommodate large groups of students effectively.

Nos:

  • Often unsuitable for professional adult learners, with little adaptation to individual language needs or learning habits.
  • Limited or inadequate speaking time for each student.
  • Students often spend more time listening to peers than engaging with experienced language coaches
  • Often held in unappealing corporate buildings or poorly converted, cramped townhouse classrooms (and yes, it matters!).

 The Blue Noun Way

With our small class sizes —maximum of three students —everyone has ample opportunity to speak.

You’ll love unwinding on our comfortable sofas and enjoying a relaxed evening in our cosy space.

The Language Café

Pros:

  • A pleasant, low-cost, and relaxing environment where people enjoy spending time.

Nos:

  • Absence of professional error correction.
  • Poor time management.
  • Absence of a clear leader to guide conversations.
  • Excessive surrounding conversations and background noise can be distracting.

 The Blue Noun Way

Sharing food and coffee is an integral part of your language holiday, helping you relax and experience naturally spoken English.

Enjoy our private café — all the comforts without the distractions.

The Language Homestay Holiday

Pros:

  • Staying with a host family offers a friendly and enriching cultural exchange, often leading to lifelong friendships.
  • Homestay English is an incredible way to learn the language. (We draw heavily from this model in terms of warmth and hospitality).

Nos:

  • It can feel too intense for some participants.
  • Introverts may struggle with this type of language holiday.
  • Focuses mainly on informal English leaving less opportunity to practice professional or social English skills. (Learn more here.)

 The Blue Noun Way

On your language holiday, each day ends with the freedom to say goodbye, enjoy your own time, and rejoin us the next day. A much better choice for adult learners!

The English Immersion Course

Pros:

  • Exploring and engaging with the local environment is a fantastic way to visit tourist attractions and begin discovering a new region.

Nos:

  • Language school immersion holiday courses are rarely tailored to specific learning needs.
  • While a fun way to explore a new town or city, immersion holidays often cater to large groups, leaving little room for individual attention or targeted language practice.
  • These courses frequently partner with tour operators, resulting in language immersion activities that offer limited opportunities for real, meaningful conversations.
  • Although suitable for students with a limited budget, they are less ideal for professional adults, as their one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t meet the diverse needs of adult learners.
