Sewing for Australia
Like people around the globe, we’ve been horrified by the news and images of the bushfires raging across Australia.
However, unlike most people, we also have the luxury of a language school with extra free space, so we’ve temporarily turned our premises into a sewing, knitting and crocheting pop-up community workshop!
This is what we do. We bring people together to share skills and language and experience.
Ok, normally we do it to achieve better English for our clients. But in our hearts, we want our community (and the world) to be a better place.
A Call for Perthshire Crafters
We’re sewing for Australia!
By the way, if you are local, but don’t know one end of a knitting needle from another – we could really use your help too: there’s low skilled jobs like fabric to be cut and sewing to be trimmed – even tea to be made.
How Our Community Can Get Involved
Join the Facebook group Crieff for Aussie Critters for updates about what we need, who’s in the space and what’s happening (link below).
Blue Noun English Language School is a Hub
We’ll be taking all the creations we can gather to a collection hub in Falkirk for the 23rd of January.
A Truly Global Effort
If you are nowhere close to our English language school in Scotland, but do want to help, you can find out more here.
“If you are dropping off something to us, please make sure it is well-labelled, including what design it is and what fabric.
This is critical.
Artificial fabrics cannot be used against burnt skin.

Our English Language School is Sewing for Australia
And you can too!
As you can see, it’s relaxed, fun & friendly – and of course, for a right good cause.
Plus, very much in alignment with our language school ethos – there are upskillling and training opportunities to be had to.
Please do come and join us if you can!
Demos and Skill Sharing
People who have dropped in to sew and knit for Australia, have shared essential skills with our group.
For example, the ARCCG request that all inner linings and some outer parts of the bedding that we are making are 100% natural fibres, however, some of the fabrics being donated have no labels on them.
Fortunately, Doreen knew a test. Take a small fabric sample and (safely) burn part of it with a match.
Meet the Makers | Sewing Lesson
Lesley Mac, of Lesley Mac Makes kindly came to our first introduction event and helped us work out the patterns (quite easy once someone shows you how).
She also very kindly did a sewing demonstration on how to ‘French seam’ and how to make a joey pouch (thanks Lesley!).
