Our Experience English Holiday, for Two

Our Signature English Holiday, Just for Two

Some experiences are simply better shared with someone you already know.

Experience English for Two is for two people who want to travel and use their English together — partners, friends, a parent and child aged 15+, or even two people from the same English class.

Book your Experience English holiday together and we close the remaining place. That means no other Blue Noun guests join your week: you get the richness of Experience English, privately, for the two of you.

Without a third guest to balance, we have even more freedom to respond to your shared interests, your individual English, the things you become curious about and the opportunities we discover in Scotland.

It is still Experience English the Blue Noun way: slow, thoughtful, curious and connected to place. The difference is that you arrive together — and the holiday is yours.

Experience English for Two is a private version of the Experience English holiday we have developed and refined at Blue Noun over many years — with no extra charge for making it private.

Based in Crieff, Perthshire, it combines specialist English support with conversation, shared experiences and time exploring the places, culture and communities around us.

You come as two — partners, friends, family or classmates — and book the holiday together. We then close the remaining place, so there are no other Blue Noun guests to accommodate.

That gives us freedom to respond closely to both of you: your English, your shared and individual interests, the things you become curious about and the opportunities we encounter along the way. You don’t need to have exactly the same English level or be interested in exactly the same things.

And private doesn’t mean filling every day or racing around Scotland. There is still time to talk, eat well, rest, notice things and follow unexpected directions. Experience English is deliberately slow enough for experiences — and the language and stories that come from them — to unfold naturally.

A Blue Noun Field Note

My Blue Noun Field Notes make visible some of what happens on a Blue Noun language holiday that a photograph alone can’t really explain.

This one came from visiting Innerpeffray Library together as a couple. We had a guided tour, spent an afternoon surrounded by local history, and enjoyed the strange timelessness of one of the most peaceful places we visited.

Following your interests gives us places to go. Paying attention when we get there gives us things to talk about.

Dates: April–October

Experience English for Two runs through spring, summer and autumn, and the season is part of what shapes each week — the landscape, local events, food, wildlife and opportunities around us all change as the year unfolds.

Choose one week or stay for two.

One week gives you a rich, complete Experience English holiday.

Two weeks give you more time for your English, interests and experiences to develop and build on one another.

To book Experience English for Two, there need to be two places available for your chosen dates. Once you book together, we close the remaining place and the holiday becomes private to you — at no extra charge.

If you have particular dates in mind, get in touch early so we can find a week that works.

Who is Experience English for Two for?

Experience English for Two is for people who want the fun of travelling and experiencing Scotland together, with the freedom and privacy of a private holiday.

You might be partners, friends, family, or two people from the same English class. What matters is that you already have enough English to enjoy conversation and want more opportunities to use it while you travel.

This is still a sociable holiday. We’ll explore, talk, eat, meet people and find plenty of reasons to use English beyond the Blue Noun Hub. Private doesn’t mean spending the week cut off from everyone else — it simply means there isn’t a third Blue Noun guest whose interests, English and holiday expectations also need to shape the week.

That leaves more room for the two of you. You can share much of the experience while still having different interests, different English strengths and some individual coaching when it is useful.

Your English certainly doesn’t need to be perfect — and you don’t need to be at exactly the same level. You might make mistakes, miss things, search for words or need different kinds of help along the way.

What matters is that you’re both willing to use English in front of each other. You don’t need to be at the same level, and this isn’t a competition.

It is normal that one of you is more confident, quicker to find words or simply more used to speaking English.

Part of the week can be about finding ways for both of you to have space to speak, experiment and develop your English without constantly comparing yourselves with each other. We have some tips to help too!

V&A Dundee and historic ship on a private English language holiday for two in Scotland

Travelling together doesn’t mean wanting to do exactly the same things. One of you might be drawn to the architecture and design of V&A Dundee; the other might be far more interested in the historic ship outside. On a private Experience English holiday for two, those differences don’t have to compete for space with the interests of a third guest. They give us more to explore, talk about and learn from.

Like all our holidays, Experience English for Two is based at the Blue Noun Hub in Crieff, a small Scottish town in Perthshire.

The Hub gives us a comfortable place to talk, eat, learn, rest and regroup, while its central location gives us an excellent base for exploring further.

We spend time in landscapes, historic places, towns and villages, cultural spaces and local businesses — and with people who live and work here. Where we go is shaped by the season, local opportunities and the interests the two of you bring with you. With no third guest to consider, we have even more freedom to follow something that catches your interest and see where it leads.

Scotland isn’t simply the setting for your holiday. The places we visit and people we meet become part of the experience — and part of your English.

Why English Feels More Comfortable Here

Experience English for Two isn’t simply a nice holiday for two people. It’s for two people who have decided that this is a good moment to give some serious time to their English — together.

Perhaps better English is part of a shared plan for your future. Perhaps you both need it for work or travel. Perhaps you already study together. Or perhaps you have different reasons for improving your English but like the idea of using your holiday to make real progress while exploring Scotland together.

There is a particular advantage to doing that with someone you already like spending time with. You explore together, meet people together and build memories in English. The words, conversations and experiences of the week become things you both remember.

And when you go home, you take that shared experience with you.

We can use the week to help you notice not only what each of you needs from your English, but also how English might fit more naturally into the life you already share. That might mean discovering activities you enjoy doing in English, changing small habits, finding things you can continue together, or simply becoming much more accustomed to English being part of your conversations and experiences.

With only the two of you, there is space for individual coaching and individual interests as well as everything we do together.

And because there isn’t a third guest to consider, we don’t have to keep balancing another person’s interests, pace and priorities against your own.

You come to Scotland to give your English some serious time. You go home with shared experiences, new habits and someone beside you who understands exactly what you’re trying to continue.

The Story of this Holiday

Experience English for Two isn’t actually new. We were offering it before we realised we should be telling people about it.

For the last three years, when two people have booked Experience English together, we have automatically closed that week to further bookings.

The reason was simple. Experience English is deliberately tiny, with a maximum of three guests. But putting one person into a holiday with an established pair — two friends, partners or family members — doesn’t necessarily create the easy, sociable group experience we want for any of them. Rather than risk creating a third wheel, we chose to protect the quality of the holiday and keep those weeks private.

What took us longer to realise was that this wasn’t just something we were doing to solve a group dynamic. It was an opportunity in its own right.

Last year, we welcomed a Spanish couple who were preparing to relocate to the USA. They both worked in demanding jobs in different areas of tourism and service, and finding meaningful time for English alongside their working lives wasn’t easy.

So they used their holiday for it.

They travelled and explored together, shared the experiences and memories of being in Scotland, and gave their English the kind of sustained attention that busy everyday life rarely allows. At the same time, we could work with them as individuals — different jobs, different English, different needs — without requiring them to spend their precious holiday sitting together in a classroom.

Working with them made something click for us.

Experience English for Two isn’t just about avoiding the awkward third person. It’s about what becomes possible when two people who already share part of their lives decide to give their English some proper time together.

They can explore Scotland, meet people, have conversations and build memories together. We can still make room for individual coaching, different interests and different language needs. And afterwards, they return home with a shared experience — and the possibility of keeping some of the habits, interests and momentum they built here.

So, after three years of quietly making Experience English private whenever two people booked together, we’ve finally decided to say so.

Book Experience English as two, and we’ll close the remaining place. No private-holiday supplement. No third wheel. Just the two of you, Scotland, and some proper time for your English.

A Blue Noun Field Note

This one came from walking together through a wildlife corridor established with EU funding before Brexit. We looked at the interventions in the landscape designed to support wildlife and talked about rewilding.

The history of the project led naturally into a conversation about Brexit — before the rain eventually sent us to Comrie Croft for hot chocolate.

Places give us layers of things to talk about: what we’re looking at now, how it came to be there, and how we feel about it.

What People Notice By The End Of The Week

One of the interesting things about learning English together is that you don’t only notice changes in your own English. You notice them in each other.

You’ve spent a week having conversations, meeting people, exploring Scotland and doing things in English rather than simply studying it. You’ve heard each other get stuck, find another way to say something, understand something that would once have been difficult, make mistakes, laugh about them and carry on.

And you’ve built a bank of shared experiences in English.

That matters when you go home. A place, a person you met, a ridiculous conversation, something you cooked, a new interest or a story from the week can become a reference you both understand. English is no longer something that belongs only to a class, an app or an hour you have to find in an already busy week.

You may also have discovered ways of keeping it in your lives together — things you enjoy reading, watching, discussing or doing in English, or simply a new willingness to use English with each other sometimes.

Your progress won’t necessarily look the same. One of you may become more fluent in conversation while the other notices better listening, more useful vocabulary or greater precision. That’s fine. You aren’t here to compete with each other.

The holiday ends. But you go home with something unusually useful: another person who shared the experience, understands what you’re working towards, and can help keep your English moving.

A Simple Next Step

If you're wondering whether this holiday will suit you, the next step is a short Zoom call.

It's a chance for us to meet, for you to ask questions and tell me what you're hoping for from both your English and your time in Scotland. This isn't a language test or assessment.

Blue Noun holidays are unusual, and the conversation gives us both a chance to make sure this is the kind of experience you're looking for.

Afterwards, if you're joining us, we'll move to WhatsApp. I'll stay in touch as you prepare — helping with travel plans, what to bring and practical questions, while learning more about your interests so I can begin shaping the week around you.

If this sounds like the kind of English experience you've been looking for, let's talk it through.
