Crieff’s Wild Sauna Experience

We’re putting true ‘immersion’ into our language holidays in Scotland in 2025.

Last year, a new wellness business came to Perthshire, and we’re so excited to share it with clients on our language immersion holidays who are seeking healthy, real-world English experiences exploring Scotland.

Woodland saunas (or wild saunas) are a great way to find peace in the landscape and relax into English.

This blog is about our local woodland sauna and how we share to grow confident, care-free English.

It shares why you’ll want to try a sauna on your language immersion holiday in Scotland.

About Nowhere Sauna

Nowhere Sauna is run by two local women, Lauren & Susanna, who are friends, mums, and advocates of the health benefits of hot/cold therapy.

They used to drive miles to use the sauna/spa on Loch Tay, then decided to build one much closer to home, turning it into an independent business by the beautiful Mill Pond on Comrie Croft – a glorious woodland camping/cycling/wedding venue that helps people enjoy nature in harmonious ways.

Comrie Croft is a farm, ‘reimagined for the 21st Century’ on 231 acres of wild woods, flower meadows, a market garden and repurposed farm buildings is now home to a family of twelve nature-based enterprises.

It’s won national sustainable tourism awards.

At Nowhere Sauna, founded by Lauren and Susanna, we aim to bring the warmth and health benefits of sauna to our community. Saunas are proven to reduce stress, improve sleep, support heart and immune health, ease pain, and boost mental wellbeing.

More than just science, we believe saunas feed the soul. Sharing this experience in nature—whether it’s the heat, a cold plunge, or gathering under the stars—helps us all feel more present, connected, and alive!

A New Way to Visit Scotland

I was in the sauna a couple of days ago (research, y’know) – like tasting all that amazing artisanal chocolate in last week’s blog – and someone asked me if I shouldn’t just design a week-long holiday visiting all the outdoor saunas in Scotland… There’s a beauty at Ellie Beach where you run out and into the sea… one in the Cairngorms National Park

In fact, Scotland has these micro gems popping up in all sorts of gorgeous locations, and they all merit a visit (Link to a map in the resources below).

Tempting, But…

I was briefly lured into that business vision that had me constantly sprawed in a sauna, but realised, if we did that, there are so many other fabulous activities, sites, and landscapes locally that you wouldn’t get to: Doune Castle, the Red Kite Feed at Argaty, the view from the top of Dumyat, standing on a bridge watching the beavers swim under you, returning to their nests at dusk… Each is exhilarating in its own way.

Saunas are exhilarating and relaxing, but for the purpose of building up confident Englsih skills, they need to be just one component in your language holiday.

A full week designed to make you amazed and feel amazing through various remarkable experiences that bring you into natural Scotland and connect you with the people caring for it – or building eco/healthy businesses that harness its power in non-invasive ways.

There’s so much more to be said for exploring one region well rather than dashing about from location to location.

Let’s Talk!

I’d love to answer your questions about our language immersion holidays in Scotland.

You’ll get to see our hub – and tell me (Ruth) 3 things you’d like to see/do in Scotland.

How Deep Travel Can Help You Belong in English

This is known s Slow Travel, or Deep Travel.

Connection with place is part of the transformation I bring to your English – the sense of belonging to the language is linked to feeling a deep connection with this one glorious part of Scotland.

As it is, my holidays share different experiences of one region.

When people return to me (which they do!), I want to share how the season has changed the woodland they walked through, or reunite them with locals to continue conversations started a whole year before.

They say to me, even during the first week, returning to Crieff feels like coming home.

Quick tips for your sauna in Scotland…

We Wear Swimsuits!

All public saunas are clothed! Men wear shorts or swimming trunks and women wear swimsuits or 2 piece bikinis.

We Talk

A Scottish sauna is a friendly, community event. We use this space to relax with strangers and share stories on neutral subjects: travel, food, other saunas.

Don’t expect to sit for an hour of silence and inner contemplation. We love a sauna chat.

So How Many Saunas?

Next week, I’m testing Double Sauna.

It will be two punctuation marks at the beginning and end of the language holiday.

And which second sauna, you may ask yourself?

Both will be at Nowhere Sauna.

We don’t need to be chasing new when familiar is so great.

This woodland sauna always has new people to meet – or different weather to step out into (I love it when it’s raining!).

We’ll be supporting these women who have built a sustainable retreat for our local community – and I know bring such great health and happiness to many.

In case you are wondering, all activities are included in the price of your Real World English Coaching Holiday.

It’s easy to get here – and easy to book your language immersion holiday in Scotland.

It all begins with a quick Zoom Call.
