Language School Social Events Christmas 2019

Laughter is Brightest Where Food is

Here at Blue Noun, English classes will begin again next week,  granting us a couple more days to bask in the aftermath of an amazing festive season.

We are honoured to have had so many fabulous guests to celebrate with.

It was our first Christmas in our new premises. As we are all about getting people together, we offered quite a few of our friends, family and Blue Noun supporters an invitation to come and celebrate with us.

It is quite simply a delight to have such an amazing space to share – and, by the way,  a top-quality, professional kitchen to cook in.

Christmas 2019 was a fantastic start to a whole career of language school social events!

Enjoy Great Tastes on Your Holiday

In this blog want to share our language school food and drink philosophy.
In a nutshell, we believe that sharing food brings people together. We love showing off the food and drink our amazing region produces (Perthshire is ‘Scotland’s larder’  after all.)

The Blue Noun English Language School premises used to be a cafe (and before that a church) – and we were delighted when we found this building: We wanted a spacious place that also feels homely and welcoming – a hub for people to come together in, both English language guests and community.

It turns out that our premises are perfect for having a party!

Language School Social Events | Christmas 2019

Over the week we invited a series of different guests to join us and language learners Axel and Katarzyna (Germany/France) for a full week of meals celebrating Christmas, friendships, great food and wine.

By day, Axel, Katarzyna and I explored the beautiful region of Perth and Kinross – occasionally knuckling down to a bit of work, but to be honest, mostly drinking coffee, chatting and munching our way through an enormous selection of regional, seasonal treats (and the goat cheese Katarzyna brought from Paris).

The Language School Festive Menu

My personal food highlight were the pears poached in red wine, thyme, cinnamon, which made the room smell of Christmas – and tasted divine.

Over the week we cooked up pineapple fritters, porridge, profiteroles, veggie moussaka, asparagus and parmesan soufflé, German-style red cabbage, parsnip and apple soup, cheesy leek pie, roast potatoes, baked potatoes, salads, nut loaf, ratatouille, vegan coronation tofu, cakes and biscuits – and we celebrated New Year with homemade mushroom pakora and a veg/paneer curry – and of course, a whisky or two!

Cooking together

It was wonderful sharing not just the eating, but the art of cooking with our guests.
Not that we’re experts! But it’s a wonderfully informal way of putting everyday language skills into practice while breaking down any teacher/student awkwardness.

There is so much to learn about our own culture and our guest’s culture by sharing both food and food preparation together.

Personally, learning recipes from around the world is one of my favourite things about travelling: it’s the souvenir I always take home.

Want to join our language school for a meal?

We’d love you to!

We put in a ton of effort at Christmas time, because we know that Christmas is a time people would like to spend with their family, but often they can’t.

We are happy that at Blue Noun we extended our little family unit to welcome friends and students for a series of meals, sharing food, wine, stories and a whole lot of laughter.

If you joined us, thank you so much for the pleasure of your company: it was a truly special week.

Want to join us for our next meal – you don’t need to wait a year: contact us and let us know – we’ll be finding excuses to celebrate throughout the whole year!
