English Excursions in Scotland Come in Different Sizes
Let’s talk English excursions in Scotland!
As you may well be aware, Blue Noun Language Hub coaches your English while sharing Scotland with you.
We have a mix of English excursion types around Scotland: and all included in your trip here!
Some of our excursions are small and local. Some are big and bombastic.
Both types (and everything in between) are handpicked both to share Scottish landscapes and culture – and get your English flowing!
This blog shares sample English excursions that feature on Blue Noun English language holidays, from steam trains to art shows, they can both show you Scottish culture.
Here’s how!
Small Scale Adventures
From our base in Perthshire, we partake in local, community events. This is a touristic region – and there is always something to see.
Today, for example, we visited Blackford Highland Games and a pop-up art exhibition in Auchterarder.
Local events are great places for you to practice speaking, introductions – and socialising – exactly because they are designed with socialising in mind.
Just today we spoke with cheese makers, artists, games stewards about what they make and do – and got axe-throwing coaching!
Micro Culture
Experiencing Scottish culture isn’t always about big show-stopping vistas – it’s about witnessing how locals interact with each other – the friendly waves from one driver to another, applauding with the crowd as a new local sports record gets broken – or enjoying watching the man who slowly shared his ice cream with his delighted little terrier dog, (imagine the tail wagging!).
It’s about stopping to photograph the bluebells growing in the sunshine.
Macro Landscapes
But you shouldn’t come to Scotland and not see a couple of ‘show stoppers.’
Scotland is famous for its visitas, for good reason.
Depending on where you are, we have spectacular mountainscapes, sea scapes – and cityscapes too.Â
Sample English Excursions in Scotland | Boat Trip
On our first holiday of the season, I’m so excited that we are taking part in two trips.
The first is a boat trip on the Maid of the Forth, which sails near Edinburgh and passes under the remarkable Forth Road Bridge and Forth Rail Bridge.
Our cruise is their evening cruise, with a live folk band on board sharing traditional Scottish song and music.
I took this video a couple of years ago on a different cruise. Hopefully, you can see how mesmerising it is to pass under these iconic bridges.
Sample English Excursions in Scotland | Stream Train Ride
Oh my goodness, I’m so excited. I’ve never done this one before – but I have always wanted to!
Described as one of the best train rides in the world, the Jacobite steam train passes over the so- called ‘Harry Potter’ bridge (The Gelnfinnan Viaduct), travelling between Fort William and Mallaig.
Aside from the pure excitement of steam power, this is surely some of the prettiest landscape in the whole of Scotland.

It’s Not English Learning as You Know It!
I’ll be honest. The mega English excursion trips are less about learning and practising English.
They are your reward for all the hard work and energy you will be putting into language learning.
Trust me, we work hard and play hard.
You’ll be ready for a day off. Ready for staring out a train window, and we’ve got a belter for you!
The mega English excursions are because I want you to leave Scotland with magical memories in your pocket, feeling like you’ve discovered it for yourself and not missed anything,
I just know that buzz will keep up your interesting English learning for years to come.
