This special edition of Bring the Squirrels is a family English holiday for one adult and one child who want to travel to Scotland, improve their English and experience the country together.

Instead of separate adult and junior language courses, you share the holiday — discovering Scotland, meeting people and learning English through the experience.

This special one-adult + one-child holiday is available for two weeks in 2027, starting 27 August or 3 September. I can welcome up to two parent-and-child pairs each week.

Available for one or two weeks.

You can book either week on its own, or stay for both weeks for a longer English immersion in Scotland.

A Family-Only Week

These dates are a Bring the Squirrels takeover. I don’t mix family bookings with my usual adult Experience English guests. There may be one or two parent-and-child families here, but everyone taking part is part of the family holiday.

No adult-only bookings. No trying to fit children around an adult programme. These weeks belong to the families.

For people who want the Blue Noun way of learning English, but don’t want — or aren’t able — to leave their child behind.

This offer is for parents travelling alone with a child aged 11+, for whatever reason.
I created it with solo parents especially in mind, but it isn’t only for solo parents.

You Have Come All This Way

Travelling to the UK to improve your English is a big investment. Add a child, flights, accommodation and precious holiday time, and it becomes an even bigger one.

Many family language holidays still follow the traditional language-school model: adults take adult classes, children join junior programmes, and much of your English learning happens separately in classrooms.

There are good reasons to choose that kind of holiday. But don’t choose it simply because it seems to be the only way to take your child with you while you work on your English.

Blue Noun offers another way.

Come to Scotland together. Use your English together. Discover another culture together. Get the language support you came for without sacrificing the holiday you travelled all this way to have.

Sharing Your Holiday With Another Family

This offer works because I can bring together two families travelling as one adult and one child for the same week. I get to know both families before you arrive, then blend your interests, English needs and ideas into a week that works well for everyone. You’ll share many of your Blue Noun experiences, while each family has its own separate homestay accommodation and time to themselves.

You don’t need to find another family to come with you. Your holiday goes ahead for £2,950 whether or not a second family books. If another family does join us, there are simply four of us learning, exploring and discovering Scotland together.

This small shared format is what allows me to offer a fair price for one adult and one child without turning Bring the Squirrels into a large-group or cut-down version of the holiday.

Your family meets each day at Blue Noun before we head out for relaxed English experiences in nature, local parks, riversides, cafés and cultural spaces across Perthshire.

You’ll stay together in a welcoming local homestay, with your own accommodation separate from any other family taking part.

The holiday combines time outdoors, guided English support and time for you and your child to enjoy Scotland independently. Some experiences may be shared with one other parent-and-child pair, giving us a lovely small group to explore and use English with, while still leaving plenty of space for your own family.

We can also help you make the most of your independent time — whether that means swimming and waterslides in Perth, a day in Edinburgh, a walk through MacRosty Park, or simply having some downtime together in Crieff.

This isn’t a timetable of English lessons followed by family activities. The experiences themselves give us the people, places, conversations and discoveries we use to work on your English.

About Your Homestay

Crieff has some lovely large family homes with plenty of space, and I also work with homestay hosts who can offer you a whole apartment within their property, although these larger options are a couple of miles outside town. When we plan your holiday, we’ll talk about what suits you and your child best: more space outside town, or a town-centre homestay where you each have your own small bedroom and can easily walk around Crieff.

Why English Feels More Comfortable Here

You’re not walking into a classroom where you’re expected to perform in English on demand. We have somewhere to go, something to do and something real to talk about. Your child is part of the experience too, so conversation grows around what you’re discovering together. I’m there to notice your English, help when you get stuck, correct what will be useful and give you new language when you need it — without turning your holiday into a lesson.

The Story of this Holiday

I know what it’s like to travel as a solo parent, and how quickly the price of a family holiday can stop making sense when there are only two of you.

I also know what it means to want to give your child a bigger world — to travel together, meet people, discover another culture and make experiences possible that you’ll both remember.

I wanted to make the Blue Noun family holiday possible for parents travelling alone with a child, without creating a cheaper, compromised version of it. So I found a different way to organise it.

For two weeks each year, I can bring together up to two parent-and-child pairs, each with their own homestay, and share some of the experiences we create together. That lets me offer the holiday for £2,950 for one adult and one child, including accommodation, while still delivering it in the small, personal way that makes Blue Noun work.

I can only do this for four parent-and-child pairs each year.

But this is how I can make it happen.

How Can We Help Children and Adults Simultaneously?

Parents and children will have different English levels, language needs and confidence. That’s normal — and because we are creative, reactive and experienced language trainers, we can work with it. Ruth, the lead coach, thrives on it!

You don’t both need to be learning the same thing at the same time. Shared experiences create different opportunities for each person: different conversations, questions, vocabulary, challenges and moments when English needs a little help.

We notice those differences and respond to them as they happen.

You share the experience. Your English support is still individual.

A Simple Next Step

If you're wondering whether this holiday will suit you, the next step is a short Zoom call.

It's a chance for us to meet, for you to ask questions and tell me what you're hoping for from both your English and your time in Scotland. This isn't a language test or assessment.

Blue Noun holidays are unusual, and the conversation gives us both a chance to make sure this is the kind of experience you're looking for.

Afterwards, if you're joining us, we'll move to WhatsApp. I'll stay in touch as you prepare — helping with travel plans, what to bring and practical questions, while learning more about your interests so I can begin shaping the week around you.

If this sounds like the kind of English experience you've been looking for, let's talk it through.

What You Might Notice By The End of the Holiday

You’ve explored, made things, met people, tried new things and discovered a little piece of Scotland together.

And English has been running through all of it.

Your child hasn’t just been learning English. They’ve been having a childhood in English — using it to joke, ask questions, understand people, get involved and make memories.

And you haven’t had to watch that experience from the sidelines, or disappear into a different classroom to work on your own English.

You’ve been part of it too.
