Supporting International Guests in Your Home
Become a Blue Noun Homestay Host
Some people enjoy welcoming the world into their home.
They are often curious, well-travelled themselves, and quietly proud of the place they live.
They enjoy sharing a favourite walk, recommending somewhere good for coffee, or helping someone discover the cultural layers of life in Perthshire.
Blue Noun works with a small, select network of Crieff and Strathearn homes like this.
A Place to Relax
Our guests travel to Scotland for a week of English coaching and exploration, and alongside the daily programme, they stay with local hosts whose homes offer a calm, comfortable place to return to each evening.
Many of our hosts are people who have travelled themselves and enjoy welcoming the wider world into their home. Hosting is simply another way of staying connected to the wider world while living in Perthshire.
Hosting with Blue Noun is relaxed and flexible. Guests are welcomed into the home, but they are also independent.
Hosts continue their own lives (work, walks, family time), while offering a warm welcome and a peaceful place to stay.
Our hosts tend to be people who enjoy welcoming others into their home while continuing their own lives as normal. Many already have friends and family coming and going, so having a guest in the house for a week feels natural rather than unusual.
Most hosts live in the generous older homes with space, gardens, and a spare room that can comfortably welcome a guest.
A calm, clean home and a relaxed welcome matter far more than perfection. Guests value a peaceful place to return to in the evening and the reassurance of a host who is comfortable sharing their space while also giving them independence.
An Overview
Most guests stay for one week as part of their English holiday, usually arriving on Friday and leaving the following Friday. Occasionally someone may stay a little longer to explore Edinburgh or spend a few extra days in Scotland.
Typically, hosts welcome one guest at a time, although occasionally we may ask whether someone could accommodate a couple travelling together. There is never any obligation — when a booking comes in, we simply contact our hosts to see who might like to host that week.
Guests spend most of their days out exploring Perthshire as part of the programme. Evenings at home are usually quiet and relaxed, with guests appreciating a calm place to return to after a full day.
Hosts provide a comfortable room and access to the kitchen so guests can prepare their own meals and settle into the rhythm of the house independently.
Our guests are independent adults who come to Scotland for a week of English coaching and exploration. We pack our days full, which means they are usually out of the house for most of the day and appreciate a calm place to return to in the evening.
Hosting is a light support role. You are helping guests feel welcome while sharing your home — not entertaining them.
A Typical Hosting Week
Most guests arrive on Friday and leave the following Friday, although occasionally they stay an extra night or two to explore Edinburgh or spend a little longer in Scotland. Most guests stay for one week, with some choosing to stay for two.
Our guests tend to be active professionals. They usually have a light breakfast and sometimes go for a walk or some exercise before joining us at Blue Noun at 9.30am.
From there, we are normally out exploring Perthshire for most of the day. Midweek, we take an afternoon off, and there are also a couple of evening activities during the week.
We share three or four evening meals together at Blue Noun, so guests are often out in the evenings as well. At other times they may simply relax, read, or spend some quiet time in their room.
By the time they return home in the evening, most guests are ready for a quiet night. Many are happy to read or rest early, but they should also feel comfortable joining the household if they have the energy for a chat or a bit of television.
About Blue Noun
Blue Noun offers English coaching holidays for adults who want to use their English more confidently in real-life situations, rather than learning through traditional classroom lessons and constant error correction.
Instead of spending the day in classrooms, our guests explore Perthshire through conversations, cultural experiences, and shared activities. Language development happens naturally through coaching, reflection, and meaningful interaction.
This approach tends to attract independent adults who already have a good level of English and want to develop it through real experiences.
Our hosts are an important part of that environment. By offering a calm, welcoming home, they help create the relaxed space where guests can rest, reflect, and settle into their week in Scotland.

About Hosting
Our hosts enjoy the cultural exchange that comes from welcoming people from around the world into their home. Guests bring stories about their work, their countries, and their lives, while hosts enjoy sharing their favourite corners of Perthshire in return.
It’s not unusual for hosts and guests to stay in touch after the week ends.

Payment
Hosts receive £25 per night for one guest. Most guests stay for one week, with occasional two-week stays.

Because Blue Noun guests are visiting Scotland for educational purposes, hosting through our programme does not require short-term let registration.
