poster for Monday Zine Sessions: Making, Stories & Conversation

Monday Afternoon, Make a Zine

A zine is one of the simplest ways to turn your thoughts into something you can hold in your hands.

In this workshop, we’ll fold, cut, collage, sketch and write our way to a tiny handmade publication. There are no design skills required and no right way to do it. Join us gathering ideas, experimenting with materials and enjoying the process of making something personal.

For language guests, the zine becomes much more than a craft project. It creates opportunities to describe, explain, tell stories and reflect in English.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a one-of-a-kind booklet, new memories of Scotland, and perhaps a new way of seeing your own creativity.

Booking essential.

The Joy of Sketching

Private, guided drawing session, led personally by Ruth.

We spend an unhurried morning or afternoon sketching together in Perthshire, often at Drummond Castle Gardens, with sketchbooks in hand and no pressure to “be good at art.”

If you’ve not picked up a pencil since school, come and surprise yourself. The focus is not artistic perfection, but attention — slowing down enough to notice shape, texture, colour, atmosphere, and detail.

Conversation unfolds as we draw, helping English grow gently through observation and mutual experience.

A simple picnic, art materials, and garden entry are all included.

Investment: £225 private half-day experience
Additional participants: +£100 per person

Family English Location-based Adventures

A private half-day, led personally by Ruth.

These family experiences are shaped around your family, your interests, and the kind of day you’d genuinely enjoy together. Leaving from Crieff, I provide transport and lead entertaining English experiences at carefully chosen locations across the region.

Some families choose larger destinations such as Blair Drummond Safari Park or Deep Sea World near Edinburgh, while others prefer quieter local experiences exploring places like Huntingtower Castle, Perth Museum, Drummond Castle Gardens, or another location suited to your family’s interests and energy.

Together, we turn a family day out into an enjoyable English encounter — with conversation, curiosity, movement, and shared discovery naturally woven into the day. I help keep children engaged while allowing English to flow naturally throughout the experience. It’s not only for the kids. You’ll be surprised how much adult language support I can fit into a day like this, too.

Investment: Starts at £300 for a family of 3 (transport included, venue and attraction entry fees separate where applicable).

Where We Share a Remarkable Guide

Some experiences are shaped collaboratively with trusted local artists, guides, makers, musicians, and specialists connected to particular places, skills, or ways of experiencing Scotland.

These are bespoke one-off days shaped around your interests, your pace, the season, and the kind of experience you’d most enjoy.

You might explore the landscape with a local guide, take part in a creative workshop where conversation unfolds naturally through making, or spend time with a musician, artist, or storyteller connected to the region.

Sometimes these experiences move between locations — outdoors, cafés, creative spaces, or the Blue Noun Hub itself.

Throughout the day, I hold the rhythm of the experience, helping conversation feel natural, welcoming, and connected to real cultural connection.

Investment

Private 4-hour collaborative English experiences with Ruth and one specialist contributor start at £295 for one person.

Additional participants: +£100 per person.

Experiences involving multiple collaborators are priced individually.

Family options are also available. Speak with us to find the right experience for your family.

A Real World Example

This page gives a sense of how a private English day in Perthshire can take shape. Here, the day is built around an expert-led nature walk, then carried through with conversation, reflection, and a quiet closing moment. It shows how English becomes part of the experience — not added on, but growing out of the stories and moments.

Who We Help

You may be travelling Scotland with the hope that your English will naturally improve while you’re here.

And sometimes it does.

But often, without the right structure and support, it’s hard to move beyond surface conversations. You listen more than you speak. You search for words. You hold back slightly.

Blue Noun help people who want something deeper — not more study, but better conversation.

Not all language work looks like grammar lessons.

Try the right setting, the right pace, and someone to help conversation open up and flow.

About The Middle Way Holiday Learning

You don’t need a full course to make progress with your English.

Many travellers choose a middle way — adding a small number of well-placed experiences into their trip, so their English develops alongside it.

The Middle Way | Build Your Own Language Holiday

About Blue Noun

If you don’t already know us, we specialise in real-world English — using genuine experiences to build confidence and grow your skills naturally.

Most of the people we work with are professionals who use English in their working lives — often very competently. But somewhere along the way, they forgot to enjoy it. Or they use it with a small voice in their head telling them they’re wrong.

From our base in Crieff, we create private English experiences across Perthshire (and Central Scotland) for travellers who want to feel part of Scotland, not just pass through it. These bespoke days blend conversation coaching with landscape, culture, creativity, food, and outdoor life.

The results are bespoke English experiences that build confidence through real connection.

Confident English: Why Feeling Good Speaking Matters More Than Progress

About Your English

Our starting point is always the holiday. English comes second.

We believe that when you feel relaxed, curious and connected to the place around you, your language grows naturally.

Each private day is shaped around real experiences — in the landscape, through creativity, or alongside trusted local collaborators. I hold the rhythm of the day, offering gentle support where needed and creating space for conversation to deepen.

There’s no performance pressure and no over-correction. English isn’t something to get through — it’s something to live in.

Will My English Feel Judged?

Slow Travel English Moments

If you’re rushing to see everything, you miss the details.
We slow down to take in what is wonderfully local — and that’s where true connection happens.

It might be sitting by a river with a storyteller, hearing the tales that rise from the surrounding landscape.

It is time to believe (and see) that your English is capable of connecting you to people and places.

Whether you believe this or not determines what you dare to do with it.

(We help you believe it).
